St Kew Pre-School- What does the future hold?

St Kew Pre-School is busy planning for the future! It has been almost a year now since we started to offer an afternoon session on a Friday, providing childcare from 9:15am to 3:00pm. This has been really successful, and as a result we would like to know what future demand is likely and whether more afternoon sessions are viable.

In order to do this, we need to gather some information. If you have children and are interested in enrolling them at St Kew Pre-School (whether now or in the future) please let us know. We would also like to know what hours you would like the pre-school to be open. This would of course not put you under any obligation but would greatly assist us in our planning.

Please contact: Nicky on 01208 841821

December News

The pre-school are celebrating after receiving a computing and technology equipment package from Cornwall Council. The scheme is part of the early year’s project, which aims to introduce technology to pre-school children.
Our pre-school manager Nicky has also received extensive training from the Council to gain full use of the equipment and educational software.

The topic for December is Christmas, the children are busy making decorations, cooking biscuits and homemade fudge.

The children have been learning about money and how to buy things, they have a play shop, where they can buy gifts and then a wrapping station to wrap their gifts, they are delighted with this fun activity.

We have places available for children from 2 years upwards, children do not have to be potty trained, and all children’s needs are supported.
To arrange a time to pop-in for a chat and a look around our wonderful bright and large re-furbished hall, where you will receive a warm welcome,
Please call Nicky on 01208 841821

Padstow to Rock Swim

Thank you to everyone who supported and sponsored Jaime, Claire and myself on our
Quest of swimming 1 mile across the Estuary last Sunday.

We had trained twice a week for the big event, even when we really couldn't face an hour of tough swimming in the evening to push our stamina further.
But somehow on the day it all paid off!!!
On the starting line we were so scared of the unknown, worrying that we hadn't trained enough and we wound't get through the waves.
So when we arrived at the end of the race after only 25 minutes we were so chuffed,
WE HAD DONE IT!!!

With money still being collected we have raised over £400 for cancer charities and
nearly £400 for the Pre- School. Thank you again.

News from St Kew Pre-School

At the end of term the children said goodbye to the Pre-School Manager Heather, with a presentation of a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a “handprint” card made by the children.
We would like to thank Heather for all her work with the pre-school and wish her well for the future.

Our summer term has now started, the children are learning all about the classic children’s book “The very hungry caterpillar” they have made a giant paper-mache caterpillar and paper butterflies.

The celebrating summer theme has continued and they have been learning about the summer weather, seasonal fruits and vegetables and had a great afternoon sowing seeds.

The pre-school enjoyed a sunny visit to Trevathan Farm, where they were delighted to pick lovely fresh strawberries and obviously try a few on the way! and had fun watching the farm animals and holding some of the rabbits. Many thanks to the Symons family for their hospitality.

Thank you to the Dog Show Sponsors

April News

The recent good weather has given the children the chance to make use of the garden and try out some of the new garden toys.

The Pre-school has had an excursion to Newquay blue reef aquarium, where they enjoyed an interesting guided tour learning about the different species of fish and sealife.
The children had the opportunity to hold sea urchins and starfish, also they watched in amazement at a crab cracking walnuts with its claws.
We finished the trip with snacktime on the beach and made some sandcastles.

For Easter the pre-school had its annual visit to Cardinham Woods, once again we were lucky with the weather and after a leisurely walk around the woodland trail, the children hunted for Easter eggs.

Snow Photos

Our wish for snow at the Pre School came true on Monday but too late really for the children to have fun in our garden. I am sure they all made up for this by playing in the snow at home on Tuesday when school was closed. Some children made it to school today (Wednesday) and, as you can see in the pictures, there was plenty of snow in our garden still - what fun we had! The only slight problem was the slippery pathways. More snow is forecast for tomorrow - hooray!

Sunday 25 January 2009

Extended session times.

Currently our sessions are mornings from 9.15 – 1.15, however for the first time we are planning to extend our session hours every Friday until 3pm, to provide a full day care.

If you would like any further information please contact Heather at the pre-school
or come along to our babies and toddler group on a Tuesday afternoon to meet other parents and the pre-school team. All welcome.

New Term at Pre-School

At the beginning of December we had our annual Christmas Fayre at the Parish Hall, which proved as popular as ever raising over £650, which will be shared between the Pre-School and the Church. Many thanks to all who supported the event.

On the last day of term in December the pre-school children gave a great performance of their Nativity play, in front of an audience including parents and grand-parents, and after they celebrated with a Christmas party and a surprise visit from Father Christmas.

Now the children are settling back to school after the Christmas break, The learning theme for this term is “Shopping”, each week the school shop will transform into different shops including Fruit & Vegetables, Chemist, Estate Agent, Pet Shop, Travel Agent and a Bank.
The idea is to learn about the roles of shops, money and how to buy things.

We have a few visits already planned for this term, a trip to St Kew Primary School, Bodmin Fire Station and a visit to the Church.
